This, up to 50 m tall tree has a scattered distribution on Grand Terre and is found on ultramafic soils. Its altitudinal range is between 300 and 1000 metres. Like A. bernieri it is often found as an emergent tree in dense angiosperm forest. Its straight stem has lead to its exploitation as a timber species. IUCN conservation Red List status: Lower Risk.
