Cyphokentia macrostachya Information
Identification
Cyphokentia macrostachya is a slow growing, attractive looking ornamental, with severely recurved leaves, and a powdery, white crownshaft. Exceedingly rare in cultivation. Found in New Caledonian rain forest to 900 m elevation in various free draining soils, and usually growing in filtered light or shade until emerging through the canopy at 15 m tall with a trunk 10-15 cm. in diameter. Unlike its sister C. cerifera, which can possibly take a degree of frost, C. macrostachya will probably not tolerate frost, but still grows in cool, wet mountainous rain-forest.
