Distribution:
Native to, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela
This is one of the most common and abundant palms in understorey of lowland rain forest. The arangement of the pits, in whorls of three, is very characteristic, although leaves are variable. To 1200 me elevation but usually below 600 m.
